Aspeq will once again open its doors to the next generation of tech talent, hosting students from Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Wellington) as part of the ShadowTech programme on Wednesday 12 August.
Now in its third year partnering with ShadowTech, Aspeq continues to champion the initiative's mission: connecting young women in years 9–11 with local tech companies to show them that a career in technology is about far more than coding.
The full-day programme at Aspeq's Head Office will give students a genuine, hands-on look at life in tech. They'll explore the breadth of roles across the industry, from project management to cybersecurity, get real talk on what subjects to consider at school, and dig into one of the hottest topics in tech right now — AI — alongside a security exercise designed to get them thinking like problem-solvers.
This year also brings some fresh energy to the day, with some new Aspeq team members joining as hosts, bringing new stories, perspectives, and career pathways for students to learn from.
David, Head of Product & CTO at Aspeq, is looking forward to welcoming the group:
"It's always great to see so many young women keen to learn more about tech. We love how engaged they are throughout the programme, and we're really hoping they walk away with something, whether that's a new interest, a bit more confidence, or just a different idea of what a career in tech could look like for them."
And yes, the office's much-loved hot chocolate machine (and all the mini marshmallows) will be making its now-traditional appearance, a small tradition that's become one of the day's most memorable moments for visiting students.
As Aspeq marks its third year hosting ShadowTech, the initiative remains a key part of the company's ongoing commitment to building a more diverse, inclusive tech sector, one student at a time.
