Aspeq Attends AIANZ Parliamentary Event to Discuss Industry Challenges and Opportunities

Members of Aspeq’s Aviation Team had a fantastic evening at the Aviation Industry Association of New Zealand’s (AIANZ) annual Parliamentary Function, held in the Legislative Council Chamber at Parliament. The event was a valuable opportunity to reconnect with industry leaders, discuss key challenges, and explore the exciting opportunities shaping the future of aviation in New Zealand.

The function, hosted by Andy Foster, NZ First MP and Chair of the Transport and Infrastructure Select Committee, featured Hon James Meager, the new Associate Minister of Transport. In his address, Andy Foster highlighted issues facing the aviation sector, including economic conditions, regulatory complexities, and training and development policies.

Hon James Meager, reinforced the Government’s commitment to the industry, while AIANZ President, Ashok Poduval, also took the opportunity to address key industry concerns, including the Funding Model, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) performance, district and regional planning, and workforce training and development.

Reflecting on the event, Aspeq’s Chief Executive, Hamish Findlay, commented: “It was fantastic to engage with key stakeholders at this year’s AIANZ Parliamentary Function. The discussions reinforced the importance of industry collaboration to address regulatory and economic challenges while embracing opportunities for innovation and growth. Aspeq remains committed to supporting the aviation industry through our assessment services.”

A key announcement at this year’s event was the launch of AIANZ’s new Agricultural Drone Operators Membership. This innovative joint membership allows individuals and businesses to join both the New Zealand Agricultural Aviation Association (NZAAA) and UAVNZ under a single AIANZ membership—offering comprehensive support across both agricultural and unmanned aerial operations. The new initiative responds to the rapid growth of agricultural drone usage and aims to strengthen professional standards, training, and advocacy in the sector.

The evening was a great success, fostering meaningful conversations. Aspeq looks forward to continuing to contribute to discussions that shape the future of aviation in New Zealand.
