Aspeq's Commitment to Women in STEMM

Aug 21, 2025

At Aspeq, we believe in investing in people, not just through our business partnerships, but by actively creating opportunities for the next generation. Our sponsorship of organisations like Innovative Young Minds (IYM) reflects our commitment to building a more diverse and inclusive future in STEMM.

A Memorable Parliamentary Experience

Recently, our Marketing and Communications Lead Amie had the privilege of attending the Innovative Young Minds 2025 Parliamentary Reception hosted by Hon Chris Bishop MP in the Grand Hall, Parliament House. The event celebrated the inspiring young women who have journeyed through the 2025 IYM Programmes.

"It was a great opportunity to meet the young women we sponsored and hear all about their ambitions and what they accomplished during this fantastic programme," shared Amie.

The evening showcased not just the achievements of these young women, but the power of providing opportunities and support.

The Need for Women in STEM

The statistics paint a clear picture of why programmes like IYM are essential:

Globally:

  • Women made up only 28.2% of the STEMM global workforce in 2024.
  • Women made up only 35% of STEMM graduates.
  • Only 26% of jobs in computer-related sectors are occupied by women.

While women comprise nearly half the workforce in non-STEMM fields, their representation in STEMM remains significantly lower, highlighting the need for targeted programmes like IYM.

Why Innovative Young Minds Matters

Innovative Young Minds is doing exceptional work in providing opportunities for young women to learn about and experience career options in the STEMM environment. By exposing young women to real-world applications, mentorship, and hands-on experiences, IYM is actively working to bridge the gender gap.

The programme doesn't just teach technical skills – it builds confidence, creates networks, and opens minds to possibilities that many of these young women may never have considered.

The Impact in Their Own Words

Nothing captures the programme's value better than hearing directly from one of the scholarship recipients we sponsored:

"This programme was such a valuable experience. I have learnt so many new things, met some amazing people along the way and have left feeling more motivated and confident about my future."

This is what it's all about.

When we see young women gaining confidence, expanding their horizons, and feeling motivated about their futures in STEMM, we know our investment is making a real difference.

Looking Forward

As we continue our partnership with organisations like Innovative Young Minds, we're not just sponsoring a programme, we're investing in New Zealand's future. We're helping to ensure that the next generation of STEMM leaders reflects the full diversity of our communities.

At Aspeq, improving opportunities for people isn't just what we do for our clients – it's who we are.
